LODZ - THE GHETTO

Background: On 1939, shortly after the occupation of Poland by Germany, the Jews in Lodz were shut in the Ghetto. This was the beginning of hunger, of diseases, of executions, of pogroms (raids). It was a corridor of pain that led to concentration camps.

The father died early in the Ghetto- period (presumably of a pneumonia) and was buried traditionally. His grave still exists in the Jewish cemetery of Lodz.

The mother died towards the end of the Ghetto period, shot in unknown circumstances. She was buried in an anonymous common grave.
My mother, her five sisters and the brother were sent to the concentration camp of Auschwitz.
